Solar Prominence March
14, 2005
by Dan Lazslo
Hi All,
See attached, a nice quiescent
prominence and chromospheric detail around the sunspots.
And decent seeing for a
change. Photo on March 14 from Fort Collins with SM90, C102F, EOS10D.
With 1/30 sec exposure,
I could use the red channel for prominences, green for the disk.
Sorry my camera has the
Newton's Ring disease, that is why some large scale blotches remain on
the disk.
Cheers,
Dan

From Dan:
We had a brief but
wild solar prominence show on Sunday morning between 915 and 1030 am.
Here is my fledgling attempt
to process something out of the iffy seeing. Shot with C102F,
Solarmax 90 H-alpha filter,
Canon EOS 10D with Barcon. Curves, levels and unsharp mask in
Photoshop.
Cheers
What a beautiful shot,
So thought Spaceweather.com when they put it on their web page several
days later.
This CME was not aimed at
Earth and actually came from an area on the other side of the Sun. Ejecting
millions
of tons of particle 100,000's
of miles out into space. Wonderful!!
